Short Overview

PROCEED™ Surgical Mesh is a sterile synthetic knitted mesh with absorbable and non-absorbable components. It is composed of an absorbable oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC) fabric, and a non-absorbable polypropylene mesh, which is encapsulated by an absorbable polydioxanone polymer. The polydioxanone provides a bond to the ORC layer. The polymer of the polydioxanone is identical to the polymer used in PDS™ II (polydioxanone) suture. After absorption of the absorbable components only the polypropylene mesh remains. The polymer of the undyed and dyed (phthalocyanine blue, Color Index No. 74160) polypropylene fiber is identical to the material used for dyed/undyed PROLENE™ Suture. The absorbable ORC layer on the visceral side of the mesh is designed to temporarily separate tissue/organ surfaces during healing and reduce the risk of unintended tissue attachment to the mesh.
Based upon the largest size available, PROCEED™ Surgical Mesh is constructed of a 25% non-absorbable polypropylene, 24% absorbable polydioxanone, 51% absorbable ORC, and <0.01% dye (phthalocyanine blue, Color Index No. 74160).
PROCEED™ Surgical Mesh is intended for use only by healthcare professionals who are trained in the surgical procedures and techniques required for hernia repairs and the implantation of synthetic meshes.
The clinical benefit to be expected is that the device serves as reinforcing material in the surgical treatment of abdominal wall hernias.
